Big Blue Sky (© Copyright Controlled 2011)

The 'Big Blue Sky' and 'Popstar' albums are the culmination of 5 years of on/off work with Brighton record producer Al Scott (Levellers, Eliza Carthy, ADF), recorded at the Levellers famed Metway Studios in Brighton.

'Big Blue Sky' has already been played on BBC Radio 1 & 2, whilst many of the other band recordings have become firm live favourites.  This is an accomplished, well crafted and expertly produced Rock/Pop album.  As well as the title track, soaring choruses and life-affirming lyrics ensure that ‘Still Feel Life’, ‘No Cause for Concern’ and ‘This’ would not be out of place on any ‘Best-Of’ compilations.

As Mark Radcliffe commented after playing ‘Big Blue Sky’, “Somebody should help him get that out - it’s ace!”  Dermot O’Leary is on record saying “we’re gonna get you signed to a big record company, that’s what we’re gonna do”, after a live performance of Big Blue Sky featured on his Saturday afternoon Radio 2 show.

'Popstar' is a much more experimental fun electronic album, recorded in downtime during live band sessions, for ‘Big Blue Sky’. Built entirely around snapshots of ideas, and homemade loops and sound effects, rather than live-band songs, the result draws on earlier Gorillaz, Jamie T and Beck.

From beginning to end, this mini-album abounds with big riffs, cheeky choruses and lyrics inspired by Tom Waits and Pink Floyd.  Check out ‘Body Under the Patio’ for a case in point!  All of this creates a uniquely different sound(e)scape.
